General Project Scope:

HOMRICH was contracted to provide asbestos abatement and removal and disposal of selective demolition debris in the 100,000 square foot, 4-story dormitories. The asbestos abatement included removal of pipe insulation located within the walls and basement and miscellaneous tile removal. Selective demolition included removing all masonry interior walls, hallways, and stairways on all four levels. The accelerated 4-month schedule required the employment of nearly 100 laborers working two shifts in order to meet the deadlines required by this project. The nature of construction did not allow the use of machinery and all demolition was performed utilizing sledgehammers, shovels, and wheelbarrows. Debris was manually hauled to strategically located chutes that dumped into roll-off containers. Special consideration and procedures were required of HOMRICH in order to not disturb the historical architecture of the buildings. The project was located in the center of a very active campus which posed logistical challenges as well as additional safety concerns for the students. The project was completed on time, with zero incidents to HOMRICH workers or students.
