General Project Scope:

HOMRICH demolished this 6-story, 70,000 square foot building on the active Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center Campus in Toledo, OH. Below grade foundations and pile caps were removed prior to backfilling the site to match surrounding grades.

The D’Youville Education Center was situated feet away from the hospital’s heliport pad, connected to the air ambulance entrance and adjacent to the main hospital building which was to remain. HOMRICH took special care to contain dust and debris so the demolition operations did not impact the surrounding hospital operations. The canopy and connector building were dismantled to avoid damage to the hospital building to remain.

Prior to structural demolition, HOMRICH mobilized skid steers on all six floors to remove all of the interior finishes. This effort allowed HOMRICH to maximize recycling efforts and as a result, 90% of the demolition debris was recycled rather than disposed of in a landfill. In all, nearly 9,000 tons of demolished materials were diverted from landfills.
