General Project Scope:

As part of Detroit’s efforts to eliminate blight, HOMRICH has supported the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) to complete asbestos abatement and demolition of abandoned residential properties for over ten years. Following are the highlights:

  • Approaching abatement and demolition of 5,000 structures within a 139 square mile foot print.
  • Averaging 11 crews per day over the last five years.
  • Completing an average of 25 houses per week.
  • 30% of demolitions occur in tight quarters adjacent to occupied residential/commercial structures.
  • 40% of demolitions are Class 1 “ordered demolitions” due to asbestos debris scattered through structures.
  • Restoration work includes topsoil, seed, curb, and sidewalk replacements.
  • Continuing to meet production goals and timelines.

The DLBA has an additional 25,000 structures to demolish over the next five years. HOMRICH anticipates supporting this effort through 2024.
